South Korea should abandon its goal of unification with North Korea
Abandoning unification ignores the plight of NK people, resigning them to continued human rights violations and poor standards of living.
Abandoning unification maintains a status quo in NK that will likely continue.
NK people endure some of the lowest living standards in the world. Unification would remedy this.
NK has one the worst human rights records in the world. Unification will solve this problem.
This argument is hypocritical since there are many places where there is human suffering on a level comparable to North Korea, but nobody is suggesting incorporating such places into another country as a remedy.
Unification may simply create a new form of suffering for the North Koreans, as second-class citizens facing discrimination from the Korean state.
