Strong passwords are always necessary.
Pros
Cons
There are websites that automatically generate long passwords, helping users to find a strong one.
A long password, e.g.
RainbowMouseTerrace
has much higher entropy, causing it to be more secure in general than a complex password as Fr3DdY#21. The first password is also easier to type and remember.
Anyone should be able to type an email, hence a password could be a sentence.
Strong passwords help protect data against hackers.
A password manager supports the idea of long and secure passwords.
A more secure solution than strong passwords is multi-factor authentication. With this a user can use a phone, smart card or other device to achieve a higher level of security than any password can provide. With multi-factor authentication the password is replaced with a PIN than can be as short as four digits. Length of the pin is irrelevant.
People are likely to forget their passwords.
Users want convenience above security. Typing in long passwords is too hard.
