Do we need nuclear power for sustainable energy production?
Because of the nature of nuclear power and the centralised way it is produced, nuclear accidents tend to be bigger in scale than other forms of sustainable energy. Therefore perceptions of the danger are distorted.
Bigger scale events are more influential to societies than more deaths that are spread out over time and locations.
Because of the bigger accidents, it also increases the chance that people that are against nuclear power die in accidents, rather than just people that have accepted the risks of a given technology (e.g solar panels).
