Are Cryptocurrencies And Blockchain Technologies The Next 'Industrial Revolution'?
Blockchain can remove the need to trust organisations.
No other technology exists which can create distributed trust between users, without already trusting intermediaries.
Blockchain is not trustless, you’re trusting in the software (and your ability to defend yourself in a software-driven world), instead of trusting other people.
Trust is important for a society, and should be encouraged not removed.
Some governance/centralisation will always be necessary. A fully decentralised system would suffer from an inability for developers and others in the ecosystem to agree on new standards, features and upgrades.
The only thing blockchain does, technically, is create a distributed trusted ledger. This is only useful for consumers when they do not trust any organisations, and are willing/technically capable enough to access the blockchain without any third party support.
