Churches, or more accurately, those running the churches, are sometimes using the church as a cover for assets that are not, in fact, used for charitable purposes. When the church leader is living in luxury on dollars that have not been taxed, that leader is essentially earning a tax-free living. We may not need to completely eliminate the tax-exempt status, but we certainly need to look at how and when it is applied. There need to be real limits to what tax-free dollars can buy.
