Adopting a discussion platform like Kialo will help improve the quality of Ethereum's political + governance debates.
Pros
Cons
Not having a face, a name, a follower count or a big bag of karma next to your comment pro or con levels the playing field and refocuses the issue on .... the issue, rather than the personality behind the idea.
The tone of a debate and how people engage with each other on Kialo is much more levelheaded, civil and to the point than on other platforms.
Makes it more difficult for individuals or small groups to brigade the discussion and wield significant influence without being noticed.
Kialo makes it much easier for new participants in a debate to back-track and understand where the discussion stands, what arguments have been made for and against, as well as how strong participants rate those arguments.
Kialo discussions would make for a nice library of decisions that could be accessed by the public, management, devs and users months/years later to see why a decision was made.
Dramatically improves the existing signal to noise ratio within Ethereum's governance conversations online.
There will be greater community buy in when they are able to participate in decisions, at the design stage. Upcoming decisions could be sent as a Kialo RFC to members.
Kialo, once you figured it out, makes reading and contributing to discussions much quicker and easier.
It will be difficult to determine when to use a tool like this - we can't use it for everything. Who determines this?
This furthers an existing issue - there are too many forums and feeds to follow already! We don't need more!
It could been seen as disempowering to participants in Crypto Twitter conversations and Reddit threads.
Discussion participants have to learn a new tool and how to go about using it.
