Should all EU citizens be obliged by law to vote in EU elections?
Decreasing turnout is a danger to our democratic institutions because it allows them to be captured by special interests.
Where fewer people vote, it takes less effort for parties with specific interests to capture a significant share of the remaining vote.
References to "special interests" imply that some interests are more valid than others. In a democracy this isn't the case. As long as they are articulated through democratic and legitimate means, all interests are equally valid.
