Cultural appropriation is wrong
It can create harmful stereotypes of specific groups of people.
Microaggressions and stereotypes can be (and generally are) committed without intent, yet they yield a cumulatively adverse affect upon an individuals self-worth and agency when they belong to a certain minority population.
In cinema, for example,
was used to dehumanize and portray Black people as unintelligent, which has been perpetuated into present day.
Stereotypes can lead to more aggressive racist tendencies.
The majority group is able to appreciate a perceived aspect of minority culture. This will enhance the value of the minority community.
The adoption of a part of a culture has been shown to lead to further interests in said culture, which has been shown to dispel harmful stereotypes that were previously held.
Condemning cultural appropriation takes away means for culturally diffirent groups to understand their respective ways and customs, thus actually deepens the potential for harmful stereotypes by perpetuating ignorance and misunderstanding.
The very existence of a given culture is enough to give rise to stereotypes.
Cultural appropriation reduces stereotyping. When a characteristic of the minority culture is appropriated in the main culture, it loses its potential to identify a group.
It is possible harmful stereotypes promote cultural appropriation as a way to emphasize certain aspects of a group.
Appropriation is not the same as mockery. Appropriation requires some form of respect for the thing for it to be appropriated, otherwise it is just making fun of it.
