Being portrayed in movies and tv series can be a huge boost in visibility for the trans* community. This visibility is necessary in order to normalise them, and break down barriers to their acceptance within mainstream society.
This restricts transgender people to being typecast, and restricted to transgender roles, keeping them out of work, or creating token trans characters, which ultimately harms trans people.
A movie performed by a non transgender but popular actress/actor would a have a far broader audience.
Transgender individuals would be seen as stars when they perform the main roles.
