Cultural appropriation is wrong
"Minority cultures being adopted by members of a dominant culture" is a poorly defined concept.
It is not clear exactly what "adopting" a culture involves. Different types of "adoption" are likely to have different moral consequences.
It is not clear what "culture" means and how its boundaries are to be defined.
There is no moral problem stated within this concept besides arguably the idea of inequitable distribution of power which is a natural outcome of life.
The argument is based on a misunderstanding of the original concept. "Cultural appropriation" was intended to describe situations that involved either taking ownership of "ethnic" artefacts or profiteering from "ethnic" practices and aesthetics. (See
This is not an argument against its wrongness, it's an argument against this discussion as a whole. If a concept is poorly defined and possibly ill-formed, this does not mean it is not wrong. It may mean that it does not make logical sense to say that it is wrong or not.
