Should Obligatory Community/Military Service Be Introduced?
People serving in the military against their will are likely to disrespect authority.
Young people may refuse to serve or strike if they perceive conditions in the military to be terrible for them. From the 1960s to Occupy Wall Street, college age Americans have been at the forefront of every major protest and resistance movement.
Many soldiers, especially those of minority background, may perceive their forced service as a form of marginalization. These soldiers are unlikely to obey or find legitimate the orders of a perceived oppressor state.
Even if this is initially true, it is likely that this will change after a brief stint in the military.
