Women should have the right to choose abortion.

  • There are many reasons a woman may not be equipped to raise a child. In these cases, it is important that she is able to choose abortion.

  • Many women do not become pregnant by choice. It is wrong to force these women to remain pregnant when they do not want to be.

  • When abortion is banned, women who do not want a child are forced to seek out illegal abortions. These are unsafe, and risk the lives of the women that try them.

  • Pregnancy and childbirth are gruelling and have huge and varying impacts on women's physical and mental wellbeing. Therefore it is wrong to prevent women from seeking abortions.

  • Unless women have the right to choose abortion, the planet will exceed its carrying capacity.

  • Access to abortion and control over reproduction is fundamental to achieving gender equality.

  • Women have a right to bodily autonomy and should ultimately be able to make choices about what happens to their bodies.

  • Adoption is a viable alternative to abortion.

  • When abortion is easily available, it incentivises women to engage in irresponsible behaviour.

  • Abortion might be used for genetic selection.

  • A significant proportion of the genetic material of the baby belongs to the male. Therefore, any decision regarding abortion should be made jointly by both parties, and not just by the woman.

  • There are mental and physical consequences of abortions.

  • Life begins at conception. Abortion therefore violates the right to life of the fetus.

  • Abortions are both immoral and unethical.
