Accepted science has been proven wrong in the past and there is no reason to believe that it won’t be again. As such we cannot rely on science to prove or disprove anything, just to provide us with a likely scenario given the knowledge available today. What we do with the information science offers us is a personal choice influenced by many factors and cannot be justified by science alone.
Think about the known world as a sphere, and the unknown as everything beyond it. "Note what happens when the radius of a sphere increases: the increase in the surface area is squared while the increase in the volume is cubed. Therefore, as the radius of the sphere of scientific knowledge doubles, the surface area of the unknown increases fourfold, but the volume of the known increases eightfold." As our knowledge increases, so does the unknown.
