Animal testing can be harmful to the test subjects.

Cons
Animals used for testing are often kept in unsuitable conditions.
The testing process itself and the products tested on the animals can be directly harmful to them.
Being bred for research prevents animals from living fulfilling lives.
Test animals that are for some reason excluded from the experiment are often euthanized anyway, even they were perfectly healthy and able to live a normal life.
The damage done to animals as a part of animal testing is well acknowledged and often mitigated. Nonetheless it is a trade-off that people are willing to make for the benefits that animal testing creates.
Across the world, there is

in place to protect the welfare of animals being used for testing.
