Catlonia will be able to contribute more to the European budget independently than as part of Spain as there are fewer dues to be paid to Madrid.
The breakage of legal security by declaring (illegally) independence of a state is the worst case scenario for the European stability. Even a legal agreed declaration of independence will create economic instability during the transition period.
