Should the state grant benefits linked to marriage?

Marriage was once the pillar of society. The state would be turning its back on tradition and stability by removing benefits linked to marriage.
Pros
Cons
Given the global rise in
divorce
and
single-parent
families, it is good for governments to offer marriage benefits, supporting and standing by healthy marriages and cohesive families.
Appeals to tradition
are a type of fallacious thinking, and should not be considered in the discussion of marriage.
Marriage is an
out-dated
custom in modern society.
Religion was also once a pillar of society but has seen a dramatic
decline
in recent years, yet people are not given benefits for continuing to practice religion.
Marriage represents only one form of intimate relationship, optimized for maximizing the number of children per adult in a world of dire scarcity. Having more children was a premise for survival during the dark ages when the institution arose. Marriage should not be any longer the singular family social institution, much less be socially favored with exclusive tax benefits.
