Unpaid internships are a useful tool for those starting or switching careers to assess if they should choose a specific profession.
Pros
Cons
Unpaid internships allow people to see what the job or industry would be like. This allows them to
better decide
if the chosen field is for them.
If someone is unsure about a job but wants to try it anyway, being an unpaid intern is less of a commitment than being a paid intern.
There may
never be enough
paid internships to go around. Therefore if unpaid internships were banned, some people would never be able to gain the
long-term benefits
of an internship.
Paid internships also allow people to see what a job or industry would be like without committing them to a job long-term.
