Should churches pay tax?
The Catholic Church is the
single charitable organization in the United States.
Catholic Charities USA
, its main charity, and its subsidiaries employ over 65,000 paid staff and serve over 10 million people.
The size of the organisation is irrelevant, the importance should be the size of their charitable schemes and effects. Just because a church has lots of people doesn't mean they are doing more charitable work than other charities with smaller sizes.
A tax credit for charitable work would allow taxation and further encourage religious organizations to focus spending on programs that benefit more people.
The state of being a religion does not imply the exercise of charitable work, regardless of the existence of cases where they do such work.
