Should the European Union intervene in the political conflict in Catalonia?
The European Union must defend citizens and not Member State governments.
Political rights are being
as said by UN.
In some instances, Catalan citizens have seeked the aid of other countries when their government uses archaic laws such as sedition and rebellion to imprison them, and when doubts are raised about the impartiality of the courts.
In many aspects it's a simple fact of defending basic human rights. People can't be imprisoned just for ideas. The political discussion has to be deep and real to the end.
The EU is a union of joined states which has citizens, not a union of citizens which have states.
The only way to defend the citizens' rights regardless of their origin, identity or political affiliation, is defending the Rule of Law.
