Should the sale of genetically modified food be banned?
The people against the sale of GMO's are not harmed by others buying it. So only the people in favour are relevant, provided that GMO's are clearly labelled.
Making the GMO labelling mandatory is sufficient for people who don't trust GMO to make their choice.
Labelling the end product does not address the potential for modified genes to spread indiscriminately through cross-pollination, or for genetically modified species to become invasive and threaten the environment.
In a free market where everyone shares at least some of the burden of insurance premiums oriented around statistical analysis, any available choice to do self-harm affects us all, so limiting people's opportunity to self-harm through ignorance or personal choice is a benefit to the community.
Even if GM crops are labelled, if they are legal, people who oppose them will still find them difficult to avoid, since GM ingredients are a component of many foods.
