Is Vigilantism Ever Permissible?
There is some language in the U.S. Constitution that
specifically supports and recognises the legitimacy of some forms of vigilantism
if the government breaches its promise to protect its citizens.
Language such as
''we the people of the United States... do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America''
, suggest that the people are the ultimate and only legitimate basis for government. Consequently the people possess the right to reform, alter, or abolish their government at any time should it not reflect their needs.
