People should negotiate relationship agreements.
This assumes that, in the heat of an argument, either party will be even vaguely interested in following a preordained structure. Life tends not to work like that.
If the parties have set out an agreement in the first place, they may be able to largely avoid heated arguments, while new arguments would likely not be covered by the agreement anyway.
The point of the agreement is to limit the ill effects of heated argument. Angry people often want to do extremely destructive things, but have been morally and socially conditioned to stop and think and not do them. A relationship agreement could fulfill a similar purpose.
