Is Vigilantism Ever Permissible?
Vigilantism is against the law of most developed countries.
Online social vigilantism can result in threatening or insulting behaviour, which may be against
state's defamation and anti-harassment laws.
People opt into
a form of social contract with their state
to adhere to the state's law in exchange for protection and services. This would be going directly against that contract.
There is some language in the U.S. Constitution that
specifically supports and recognises the legitimacy of some forms of vigilantism
if the government breaches its promise to protect its citizens.
