Should the US government guarantee every citizen a job?
We know that the economy can prosper while people are unemployed. We do not know if it can prosper with full employment. There is no need to
destabilizing the US.
Full employment is not a desirable state for the economy or society in general. Unemployed stay-at-home parents produce children who, on average,
perform better academically
display fewer behavioral problems
. It follows, then, that a fully-employed populace would ultimately produce a less productive and prepared future generation of workers.
The policy of jobs guarantee, however appealing, is unfeasible under the conditions of capitalism in the United States. As an example, employment programs during the
